To get certified as an instructor you must first take a Certification course. You can contact you local mountain to find out when and where clinics are going to take place. As for cost, your yearly dues range from 75 to 250 depending on your mountain and region you are skiing in. You can also start teaching as a novice and take an in house PSIA test. You work with other instructors through out the season and earn out level as you teach. Also check out PSIA.org for any additional info.

From my own experience (even through I did patrol instead!LOL) the best thing to do is get a hold of the ski school at the mountain you are looking to work at and have them give you the answers you are looking for as far as finding out when there will be a test done. You will basically be starting off as a level 1 instructor but that can change. Also look at the PSIA web site if you haven't already! Good luck!
