I enlisted in the Navy. I told the recruiter everything, he said not to tell MEPS, or anyone at bootcamp that I had counseling back in hs school in 1995, and took meds for depression, and bi-polar disorder. I've been functioning fine without those meds since then, and I don't need them, or counseling. I went cause my parents were abusive, and one of them died before kicking me out because I took my sisters side. -needless to say it was a stressful period, and for that I'm stained for the rest of my life for trying to get help. They found out at bootcamp (it says it right on my hs transcript..) and now a black mark of an re4. I'd do anything to get back in the military, take any crappy, or dangerous job, but I know it all depends on meeting qualifications no matter the job. RE4 is a DQ, but what are the chances I can get it down to a RE3?

Your best bet is to try thye National Guard. However, it is unlikley you will get in, mainly due to Bi polar in the past.

Dont say you are willing to accept any crappy job or dangerous job because i was in the same boat as you and trust me you dont want to be playing hooah hooah in the field in 25 degree weather... I had an RE-3f so i was not as bad but a nasty little mark. First thing you need to do is get in touch w/ someone who has connections (Navy or Marine Recruiter) to the Navy Board. Get as many signatures and personal testimonials from affluent civilians (Ones w/ a degree and good job) Also if you know people in the military have them write a letter about your character.... The higher the rank the better for you also something about your meds and bi-polarism is a non-factor today. Try to get some some college knocked out and stay out of trouble.. basically make it look as if you accomplished alot since you were discharged. Also you could try to go through the V.A. to have your RE recoded. It also will not hurt to talk to a recruiter to see what your options are/ and what else you may need to do to have this re-worked

i had an re-4 years ago and was out of the military for awhile, i served my full time, honorable discharge and everything, the problem was that i banged the battalion commanders daughter and he found out and was pissed as hell, he told me he'd make sure i never got back in. well advance 7 years. i was looking about getting back in and knew my chances were dismal. but the recruiter told me he could apply for a waiver. which he did and i left for a unit within a month and served another 6 years. then got out in 2003 on a medical discharge, i was wounded in afghanistan. oh and by the way I did run into my old battalion commander again, lol he was pissed to see me but could'nt do anything. talk to a rec ruiter about getting you a waiver. hell they giving them to convicted felons now because they short on manpower no one is enlisting!
