I'm a college student needing some money...it seems way too easy. What's the catch? Tell me your experiences. I'm curious to know pros and cons. Thanks in advance!

I started donating plasma about a year ago needing money for college. The process is easy and, depending on which clinic you go to, only takes an hour or so. You need to be healthy, and not take certain medications.

On your first visit, they will give you a physical. If you want, you can donate that same day if your eligible, but if you'd rather wait, you have to donate within 6 days or they'll have to give you a new physical.

Overall, it's a great experience. I get $50 a week for giving plasma.

My brother has, not me. I've donated whole blood.

One of the cons is that you have to donate more than once, and they don't pay you right off the bat. Plus, when they put the red blood cells back in your arm, it can be uncomfortably cold and ooky-feeling.

Also, you have to be eligible for it. As with donating whole blood. They don't take just anybody--they've become stricter about it recently.

Check it out...but don't be surprised if there are more catches to it than you expected.

are you sure they pay money? most of the time you go to a blood donation center like the Red Cross or Lifesource (chicago). it's basically the same thing as regular whole blood donation, but they hook you up to a giant machine which filters out the plasma and "gives" you back the rest of the blood. i'm not sure exactly how long it takes, but when i donated platelets one time, it took about 2-3 hours (same type of machine).

Its an OK way to get money, you get to watch movies, but if you go alot you sometimes see the same old movie time and time again. It will take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours to complete and you get to hang with homeless people.
