actually no I didn't - I developed high blood pressure though.
You should though -Stay active and once your doctor works out your levels, you will likely go on meds.

I assume when you mention thyroid level you are talking about TSH. The normal range is still up for debate. Some list the range at 0.5 to 5, while some believe it is 0.3 to 3.
A high TSH may indicate hypothyroidism. Weight gain is one of the symptoms due to lower metabolism.
You should see an endocrinologist. He may or may not treat you with a TSH of 4. It would probably depend if you had other symptoms other than just weight.
Medication will raise both your metabolism and your appetite. The medication may help you lose weight but is given to treat hypothyroidism not for weight loss. Synthroid is the non generic version of medication most prescribed.

I've had them on and off. Mine is normal most of the time, but once in a while it kicks into high gear and I have to take Synthroid for a little while until it returns to normal.
You, however, seem to have an under active thyroid. My mom has an under active thyroid and she took the same medication I did and it worked for her too.
That's so weird how it worked for both of us and we had different problems. Maybe it was the dosage...I don't know.

I hope you are on thyroid meds. Once on thyroid meds, you should be shooting for a morning TSH under 2.0. Most like to see it around 1.0 for weight loss.
About weight loss and thyroid meds......the meds usually do not help you lose weight. What they do is help you maintain and make it possible to lose with diet and exercise, but only if your TSH is below 2.0.
I'll put a few thyroid links below. I think they will be of great help to you.

My mom has thyroid problems and so do a couple of my friends. Yes, thyroid issues can cause weight issues.

Thyroid medicine won't help you loose weight. It will help you get your energy back, and if you use that energy for exercise you will loose weight. If you do have a thyroid problem, you need to see a doctor.

This may have nothing to do with your condition but my thyroid became low when I went on lithium-a mood stabilizer.
