how about drinking a protein shake DURING the workout instead of water, and then have a good well balanced meal?

10 answers

1. whey proteins in water
2. milk protein shake in milk
3. meal with 40-50-60 gr lean proteins (fish, fat free dairy, beans, eggs, etc)
4. regular meal (usually around 15 gr proteins)
5. nothing

Caveat: exercise is better in the morning, followed by 1; other protein supplementation (such as 2) is better before going to bed.

A very good protein shake. Stay away from carbs after the workout, carbs are good for pre-workout, but not post work-out. Basically if you make your protein shake with milk, a banana and possibly a little bit more fruit, it will be enough to fill you up. If you have the urge to eat something as well or as opposed to a protein shake, just make sure there is plenty of protein in it, with very little or no carbs.

I would base my answer on how close to going to bed you finish your workout. If you are within a couple of hours, I would have a light (balanced) snack. If you have more than 3 hours before bed, then have a healthy meal. I don't use protein shakes as most people only need to add an extra serving of lean protein (chicken, fish, beef, etc) to increase their protein intake.

My answer is #1 eat a healthy low-fat meal afterwards. Drink a protein shake before to build muscle not after. Always eat something or you won't sleep well and there will be hell to pay in the morning and you'll get to run down to continue your work-outs.

So there! Lol! SMILE!!

a protein shake would be the best if it's late in the evening , it would help your body rebuild while you sleep .
if it's late , definately don't have a big meal because your body will work on digesting allnight instead of rebuilding , leading to excess fat.

so in ranking :

1: pro shake
2: nothing
3: big meal
