they pop, or at very least their stomach bursts open, because birds don't fart, so they have no way to release the gas.

their stomachs are a one way street, they don't allow gasses to come back up like humans, and they cant digest it quick enough so their stomachs "explode". And no, its not like a literal explosion, they just rupture and the bird dies,
