I am sixteen, and my parents are divorced. I was wondering what sort of rigthts i would have when it comes to wanting to live one parent over the other. If it helps, ive recently been suffering from panic attacks because of the way my father treats me. He dosent physically abuse me, just puts me under unbearable amounts of stress.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you

My parents have been divorced for 13 years. Also, would my father still pay child support if i was to move in full time with my mom?

At 16 you can request that you move in with who you want to, as long as that other parent doesn't have a problem with that and are financially able to support you(going to school, eating regularaly etc)
Talk to your mom and let her know you want to move with her as you're having panic attacks around your dad., and that you'd feel more comfortable living with her* You're of age ....by law you're allowed to unless that parent is abusive or has criminal charges.

I'm sorry to hear that your father is causing you to have panic attacks. As far as your rights, a counselor should be able to assist you. Have you tried talking to one at school? He might be able to help you find out who you can talk to relating to the divorce. Are your parents currently going through the divorce or has it already gone through? There should be someone representing each of your parents, that you could talk to. By any chance have you talked to your mom and let her know how you feel or what is going on? The courts do take into consideration what the child would like and what is best for the child. It isn't healthly for you to have to bear extra stress. It's hard enough being a child. I hope you find someone to talk to soon. Please take care of yourself. I know divorce is hard, but try not to take any of it personal. Try to relax when you can too.

first of all, i am sorry about your parents. mine divorced a couple years ago and i know how hard it can be. depending on the state you live in, you will most likely be given the choice of who you want to live with. if you are not given a choice you will most likely be put with your mother. talk to your mom about it, or if you don't feel comfortable talking about it with her talk to another adult, like a friends parent, a teacher, or a school counselor. god bless.

where I'm from at 16 you can choose for yourself...so long as the parent you are choosing is able to take care of you.
