She should not ask, she should ask if she can go shopping with you to the mall or wherever...if he is quick he will ask her if she needs money...but if they are tight, I don't think she should ask for something she knows they don't have much off....

She still can go with you and have fun....

Just ask. She can tell her stepdad she wants to go shopping and she knows money is tight because of the new house. As a parent myself, I'm more likely to give my kids what they ask for if they are honest about what they want. Parents know kids don't have jobs. Maybe she can do some extra chores around the house to earn the money.

Is she under 18? Still in school? Does she really NEED to go shopping?

Does she ask for much of him?

If the first three are yes and the last one is no then just ask nicely the worst answer she will get is no.

Maybe even offer to do some chores as repayment...

If she's broke then she has no business blowing money at the mall! Tell her to get a job so that she doesn't have to always ask other people for hand outs. It's only a matter of time before she starts asking YOU for loans that she'll never pay back! BEWARE of people always hitting you up for money! As soon as you agree, you've established a pattern that can only be broken when the friendship ends!

Asking for money just to go shopping, because she's broke is very selfish! She needs - in advance - to do something to earn her own money and learn how to handle her money so that when she wants to go shopping she has the money. Promises to do chores usually fall through and are forgotten after the money is spent.

When either of my young daughters wants a little extra money, I offer them the chance to earn it by doing something extra around the house that they aren't normally required to do. Washing the car is always an easy way for them to earn some extra cash and I save from not having to take it to the car wash.

If she NEEDS the clothes, she should just say she needs to go shopping and ask for some money.. If she just wants to go shopping with you, she should wait til she has money or not buy anything.

Maybe she can ask him if she could do some kind of extra job around the house and earn a few bucks. Something thats not already one of her chores.

She should get a job, it will teach her responsibility, and show her that money doesn't grow on trees.
