Ok I'm not sure if this is anxiety or stress but, when ever I go to animal care I get so much anxiety or stress that my stomach turns until I'm in the building doing work. I think the reason is because when I first started going there and had to restrain a dog it jumped at me giving me a warning growl and I think that somehow tramatized me. I've tried to tell myself to get over it but it doesnt seem to work. I know this sounds silly but I really hate feeling like this because I do love animals, so my question is which is it and how can I relieve it?

I guess I should have been a bit more clear, I dont have a fear of animals but I'm just afraid that something like that is going to happen again. I think it may be just because I'm afraid of hurting a dog or something, I felt awful because I thought I hurt the dog. Oh and wow you guys answered this fast haha, thanks for the help so far.

It sound like a little anxiety. You have had something happen to you so you continually experience that anxiety every time you encounte the same situation. If you ar not careful, that little anxiety that you are feeling can turn into some thing that is more debilitation. It woould wise to seek out some therapy and talk through your concerns. It's kinda like your fear has become irrational in nature. If you don't know some relaxation techniques, it would help if you learned them. Deep breathing, before you get to the plce would probably help immensely.
You are doing the right thing by continuing to go to the same place but , you will need to work through that fear towards dogs.
Good Luck.

The anxiety, sweetie, is caused by stress. There's nothing silly AT ALL about being upset, tramatized, anxious, stressed or anything to do with your reaction. Actually, it's a healthy mechanism. Be grateful you have those feelings, otherwise, who knows what worse things could happen? Too many people get mauled because they're overconfident and/or in denial that it won't happen to them. You protect yourself or lessen any possible injuries. If you are really bothered by your feelings of this, consult a doctor who can be of further help.

What you have described is a classic conditioned response. There is nothing abnormal about it, and I would not categorize it as stress or anxiety.
Your reaction is based on a previous experience, and in your mind, the fear is justified. I think you need to gradually expose yourself to the animals at work, and the more positive experiences you have at work, the better you will feel. Try to picture yourself having fun at work. Focus on all the good experiences you have had and replay them in your mind as you enter the workplace each time.
Hope this helps.:)

it started out with anxiety and turned into stress because you havent been able to get over the incident. The only way you can get over this is talk to your manager im sure they have had these things happen many times and perhaps they can give you a workable way of getting this stress and fear out of your head....if you cant talk to anyone at work visit your dr and perhaps they can refer you to anxiety and stress counselling so you can talkj about your problem and come to some kinda closure?!
good luck hun

Learn relaxation techniques and practice them for at least 20 mins. daily, such as the ones in: http://www.relax7.com/7.php and in last 6 blogs of Shan Eris at www.myspace.com where there is also a section on stress. See http://www.anxietypanic.com/signs.html and http://deeplyrelax.com/

If you fall from a horse you must get back on it. Sounds like you need pet therapy to help your confidence and rebuild trust with pets.
