You mean regionals as in qualifying for state, right? The state large-HS qualifying standard in Minnesota for the 1600 this year is 4:19. Usually the regional champion gets that or faster. I don't want to be harsh, but your time *might* make you varsity on the girl's squad for some smaller meets. (I am a girl, btw)
Some citizen's races have "Clydesdale" divisions (for women who weigh more than 150 lbs and men who weigh more than 180), but there is no such thing at the high school level.

If you wanted to win just a common meet, you'd probably want to be under 5:15. If you want to win a big race like an invitational, regional or sectional meet, then you're lookin at goin under 4:35. To win state you'll want to be under 4:20 maybe under 4:10 if the runners are excellent... dorian ulrey won the 1600m last year for class A IHSA state track meet in 4:09 with Charlie Hatch in 2nd in 4:15 and Jeremy Stevens in 3rd with 4:20.

I won my league (similar to regional in my area) last year by about two seconds at a 4:30 by about 2 seconds, i would say it would definitely have to be under 4:50 to be in the hunt and under 4:40 would certainly place you in the top 5, give or take a few spots. Then again, it all depends on how competitive your area is.

Your height and weight has no bearing on who you race against. My best time in H.S. was 4:53 and I never won much of anything except a few dual meets. To win a regional meet, you'd have to be somewhere around 4:30 or better.

It depends on what state you live in. I would plan on runner a sub 5 min. mile to have a chance. If you give me the state you live in I can give you more information on past winners and there time. I know that for Colorado you have to run a sub 5 min. mile to qualify for the mile in my region. Send me an email if you need more help.

You will have to go sub 5 min. to think about it in High school and under 5:30 to get it in Middle school. It really depends on your area so ask your coach. But those are good estimates.

Sub 5 minute mile..
I ran 4:50's in high school.... and still DIDN'T qualify.
Study your opponents and check their times every week(online, newpaper), that way you have something to go off in attempting to make regionals. Good luck!
