No...a child is more important than an animal. Now, I don't believe in neglecting or abusing the dog. It should be taken care of; however, the most important being in the household is and always will be that child. If the dog is a safety risk, then it should be given away to a family that would want it or put in a shelter. That's all there is to it.

if the family takes the time to find a new family that the dog fits in with then no, but if they just let him out and abandon him then they should have some type of consequence. It would harm the dog more so if they kept him and neglected him then finding him a new loving family.
There was a woman in my town who attempted to "Ditch" her dog at a local park. She was observed shoving him out of her running car and throwing things at him while yelling, "go on get the hell out of here!" Now that woman should suffer some consequences for sure. Someone who witnessed this intervened, but not enough to to get the dog safely away from her. I imagine he is now wandering around somewhere in the winter storm emergency freezing his poor little paws off.

I think if they just dropped the dog off on the side of the road somewhere yes they should get in trouble. If they were responsible and took time to find the dog a new home not just any home but a good home then no. I have a pitbull and I would never get rid of him just because I had a baby. Only if he tried to snap at them. I also found a kitten last week whose family had been run over and I am taking care of her and trying to find her a home but if I cant then she is welcome to stay with us to!! I am an animal lover so I could never just turn an animal away.

Absolutely not. They should have taken the animal to the shelter but if the animal was not safe around the child then they had every right to get rid of it. I had to get rid of our dog a few months back because she started biting the children. You obviously have no children if you think an animal should come before someone's children. Not all dogs are "innocent".

If the dog is a risk to the baby then the only responsible thing to do is get rid of the dog. The safety of the baby always comes first.

I would normally say yes, but I have the greatest dog in the world and he is not adjusting well to my new baby. He tore up the highchair, 4 dining room chairs, a door wal, and did about $1000 in damage. And he has always been the best dog.
I tried to give him as much attention but I wonder if he might be happier elsewhere with a different family.

Wouldn't call it selfish. It could be a safety or health issue.
Sometimes dogs are great with adults, but horrible with children.
