Yes, and it's also true that many Christians are former atheists.

Yes and when I ask most Christian-turned-Atheists what made them lose faith, MANY of them say "When the Bible says God created the world". C'mon thats the very first verse! That is like saying you believed in the Alphabet until you found out the first letter was "A".
And concerning the brutal passages in the Old Testament, true Christians know that 1) they do not apply to us 2) they were instituted to protect Israel or 3) they were against God's laws. So frequently in the OT you find how the Israelites were disobeying God.
The second point is huge though. Remember, the Messiah was to come through the lineage of the Jews, and if the Jews were obliterated, then Christ could not come and mankind would not be redeemed from their sins. In the short term, some tribes were killed, but in the long term, humanity could receive salvation. Plus remember that in Deuteronomy there is a law that before the Jews went to war, they had to propose peace and utterly be in accordance with the peace and not breach it.

Most of the atheists I personally know came from devoutly religious families. And of course they read the Bible. How can they attempt to disprove a document they haven't read? That wouldn't even be logical. Generally speaking, my atheist friends know the Bible far better than most of my Christian friends, because they spend so much time attempting to debunk it. If you want to hear someone quoting Bible verses, try an atheist who's used to debating.

Would you care to share some of this 'archaic' information with us, you mentioned? Atheists who have read the Holy Word of God will be judged in the Great White Throne judgment with even a harsher judgment, then those who have never read or heard about the Bible, if that could be possible in our day with all the media and technology to deliever the true of the Word of God to people worldwide! The Bible tell us that such people are condemned already because they 'knew the scriptures' and yet repented not of their sins!
It states that those who don't believe in the Son of God, that He has come in the flesh, and in the work that He as done to save sinful mankind, are condemned already!

I think that some people have guilt from christian way of life and need to break free of it. And so to strengthen their thoughts and beliefs, they turn to science. Sometimes, I think ,the guilt is so personal it leads someone to intentionally find a proof for the nonexistent of God.
All that I ask is this, you have turned away from Christianity, but does that mean you have stopped your search for God?
Where there is a will, there is a way, if you want God to exist, he will exist, if you don't want god to exist, he won't exist. The power is in the will. It has nothing to do with reality, because your reality is shaped by your will.

I read somewhere that the Bible itself was the catalyst that started most atheists on the road to atheism. It wasn't the ONE thing that turned me into an atheist, but it contributed. I've read it many times, both as a believer and a non-believer.

the point is that being you were raised methodist never made you a christian....salvation is personal...you cannot depend on your parents being methodist to make you a christin...there are no former christians...there are people raised by christians who rebel against God

So you left, that is your choice, just like its out choice to stay. What happened to you that made you stop believing? Sounds to me like you spent more time listening to someones accent than listening to what Jesus taught. If you know the bible, then you know HE taught LOVE>
Peace out....
