This seems really odd...but here's my issue...
I just got my hair colored today and it turned our fabulous. I went to a new salon and I was told that I should consider not shampooing my hair anymore. I was surprised by this, but the girls in the salon have stopped shampooing their hair and their hair was amazing. They said that once I stop shampooing my hair will seem oily at first, but then it will adjust. It's supposed to help manage the slight curliness/waviness of my hair and also help keep my color. They said that shampooing removes a lot of stuff that my hair needs. They recommended just using conditioner (a kind that does not leave buildup). This is what they tell all their clients and they have a very dedicated client base. Has anyone heard of this not shampooing thing? Has anyone tried it? I am debating whether or not to give it a shot. Any advice? Any hairdressers care to weigh in on this one? Thanks:)

Oh...I should have noted that there seems to be no cost issue here--i.e. a way for the salon to make more money. They were cheaper than some of the other places I called.

i have NEVER heard of this. the right shampoo will not remove the important things in your hair (like protein). not shampooing your hair can lead to very bad health problems. shampoo is not just for you hair, it's for your scalp too. there is a condition call ptyriasis steatoids. it's a build-up of skin cells, accompanied by pus, and it sometimes bleeds. shampoo is essential!!

Oh that is a rediculous idea. I have never heard of that. I would say do not wash your hair every day, but if you use a good quality shampoo and conditioner every third or fourth day, it would not take the natural oils out of your hair. I use organic natural shampoo from Evansgarden.com and it is fabulous because it does not have any detergent in it. All natural ingredients. Try it, you will love it. They have shampoo, conditioners and many other items including skin care. But to never wash your hair..no that is not for me.

Not shampooing everyday is okay, but not shampooing at all, well.... I am on the same page with the answer that talks about pityriasis steatoids. Not only that, but it is just poor hygiene. Even people with dreads wash their hair every now and then. Use a professional color safe shampoo and conditioner, shampoo every other day and you shouldn't have any problems with your scalp or color.

No, I've never heard of that and I for one would not try it. What about all the build up from hair spray and stuff like that? I don't use alot of products in my hair, but I know when it feels dirty. I would just feel so nasty. No, I can't imagine not ever shampooing my hair again.

ewww. you definatly need to shampoo, think a few hundred years ago when everybody wore wigs because their natural hair was so nasty. Depending on how oily your hair is, however, you might not have to every day. You can also get a good colour shampoo to save your colour.

How about dirt from the atmosphere? Sweat? Dead skin? Just sound nasty to me but what the hell give it a shot. If your head starts to feel gross after a few day you can always wash it.

it sounds like a scam to me... they charge you the same price AND the appointment takes less time. The only thing I know you can get from not washing hair is dreadlocks.
