My son has had this problem for years. We have been to the Doc"s and have had no help there. We have monitored eating and seems not to be anything in particular. I know my son worrys about things and this could contribute to the sickness, but he is 15 yrs old now and seems to being enjoying himself at school and at home. Does anyone else out there have a child like this.?

I've treated this many times. Here are some possible approaches:

1) It could be a parasite. A naturopath would be able to help diagnose. Eliminate sugar, wheat and dairy from the diet. Take acidophilus capsules.

2) Could be an allergy. Find an NAET specialist to identify and heal food sensitivities.

3) Acupuncture can help to strengthen the stomach, spleen and intestinal energy.

4) There may also be an emotional component. There's a non-toxic, all natural product called Bach Rescue Remedy. You take 4 drops under the tongue to balance stress and anxiety. That would be worth using when he worries.

Good luck!

As a sufferer of food allergies myself, i have a news flash for everyone out there - it is not necessarily a single food but a combination. your son may be only mildly allergic to something in his diet but something you give him in the next 24 hours can react with what is left in his system.
For example - i can eat cheese and i can eat chocloate but if i eat them within 24 hours of each other i get violently sick for the next 24. The elimination diet idea is fine (i couldn't stick to it) but actually the easiest solution is to get your doctor to refer your son to an allergen specialisty - this may be a specific dietition or a dermatologist even.

You should also consider outside influences - is he allergic to something in his environment, a type of plant he comes in contact with once a week for example; this can have the same effect as a food allergy - he gets sick (in one way or another) and is tested for the same way as food allergies. Its a simple contact test - no pain invloved and no-one but you parents, your son and the allergen specialist needs to know that it even occured. it will take a while to pinpoint the exact allergen.

You might also be advised to ask the doctor to get a blood-allegen levels test done on your son. try to get the blood test done as close to the time your son feels sick as possible though. Normal blood allergen levels are between 0 and 170 (to give you an idea of why i know all this, my level is 3,476). If the blood level is elevated - don't panic - your son is gonna be fine, he just needs to learn what it is that triggers the reaction and avoid it. I live a perfectly normal life despite my allergen level and am healthier then most people because i have to be slightly more careful... being 15 yrs old though might be a problem - if it is a food allergy he's gonna have to decide not to eat fast-food because it is very likely to have a small amount of the allergen in it.

I assume you ruled out lactose intolerance. If not, an allergist can confirm this, as well as rule out any other sensitivities.

Viruses and bacterial infections can cause diarrhea. Have you ruled out these??

Sounds like Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Why not Goggle the symptoms and see what you find. This condition can be effectively treated with motility agents like, Domperidone or Metoclopramide.

It would be best to see a gastroenterologist regarding all these posibilities.

Have you had him checked out for lactose intolerance? It can cause diarrhea. So can pop, and so can coffee, and hot chocolate, and other foods too. Monitor what he eats and when he gets the diarrhea.

Are you sure he doesn't have a mild case of Chrohns disease or colitis? Have bowel diseases been ruled out?

Some kids have IBS...Irritable Bowel Syndrome...all kinds of things these days but diet is usually the culprit...stress too can be a major factor. Lots of sleep, water and a good diet.

Check his fiber and Iron in his diet. Think Fiber gets you more regular and Iron can solidify things... if not, it's the other way around.

Metamucil each day and an iron tablet should do him up right. Keep some stool softener around just in case he gets constipated.

Hope it helps.

I don't have a child like that but I know that food allergies or allergies can cause this problem.

Consult with a doctor that specializes in that area.

Start doing food elimination. It's something you are feeding him or he is feeding himself.

You might want to consult a nutritionist
