If you are single and live in the barracks, you are not allowed any pets.

If you are married and living in military quarters, you are generally allowed to keep two pets (generally considered any combination of cats and/or dogs). They do not allow exotic pets (snakes, monkeys, etc). You are also not supposed to run a breeding operation out of the home. The pets will have to be registered with the vet on post, up to date on their shots, on heartworm preventative, and microchipped. If they are kept outside, they must be in a fenced in yard or secured, and have access to food, water, and shelter. Many posts are also banning "aggressive breed" dogs, such a pit bulls and rottweilers. There are also usually noise regulations that apply to pets as well. If you are caught breaking any of the rules, you can be banned from keeping pets on post or even evicted from housing.

The rules may be more or less strict depending on duty station, but these are the general guidelines I have seen. Some places are really lenient on the rules, and some are more strict.

Yep. There is a certain number and type of pets allowed. You aren't supposed to have pets (for example) and run a breeding place out of your home on post.

You will have to have a dog house if they are kept outside. You will have to have them registered on post. You will have to make sure all shots are up to date. Dogs must be leashed if you're walking them. Any damage they cause you'll be responsible for.

I can only speak for my time in the NAVY (1985-1999), but in the barracks you were NOT permitted ANY form of pet.

In base housing at NAS North Island, dogs were banned, and one had to pay a deposit to have a cat.

Yes you can. You can even send them overseas for quite a cost. If the dog goes overseas it has to be quarantined before leaving the US and also coming back.

if you are single and living in the barracks, no. Married personnel living in housing, however, may although each housing has different regs about what kinds of pets are allowed, if any.

Yes. Same rules apply as in most communities, must be on a lease, cannot run free, etc, etc.
