I would start as if he was a puppy again!
First get some treats he can not resist then play the name game I know it sounds stupid but it is all apart of training.
So say his name the minute he looks at you give a treat and lots of praise do lots, never use his name when getting mad use a loud sound like SSSSSHHHHHHH. Then try him off leash he will soon learn that when you call or say his name treat time. If that doesn't work try running the opposite direction. Good luck

Its going to take a lot of love patience and training. the border collies are very smart dogs and usually easy to train but if its been abused its going to take additional time kindness and patience. Try Bach flower remedies such as rescue remedy, I have found that invaluable for my dog who was an animal shelter dog and as she has a sensitive temperment she needed something to help her relax. Try your local dog obedience clubs, these people have vast amounts of experience with dogs. Try your local vet for advice and maybe a temporary drug to calm him down until he settles into his new home. your patience will be rewarded with unlimited love from your dog just be patient and good luck

This breed can be very tricky to train, they require a soft touch. I would recommend that you consult with a local trainer with some knowledge of this breed, they cannot be dealt with heavy handed. Good Luck.

ohhhh that brings back many memories for me...i have just had to put my poor border collie to sleep after making it to a ripe 16yrs of age.....when she was young she was so naughty and did the same....in the end we tried running the opposite way and turned it into a game and most of the time it worked!...she saw us and wanted to chase us...which led her right back into the back gate! he he he.......good luck!

my dog is four years old and does the same thing. make sure u have his trust. make him feel comfortable. and try training him. praise him when he does the right thing and feed him some of his favorite treats when he stays so he gets the idea.

usually it's rather hard to train an old-enough-dog... (up to 1.5 years) maybe u can bite his ear.. to dominate him
