How can I resotre my active desktop?

When I double click on restore my desktop, I get an error message on line so and so. What's up?

when your computer shuts down wrong, windows deactivates the active desktop in case it was the thing that caused the shutdown. there should be a button on your desktop to restore it, it's annoying, but you can change it with a registry tweak here: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/949/

or if you are feeling adventurous, you can edit it with notepad, it's located here:C:\WINDOWS\WEB\SAFEMODE.HTT
