I even bought ones specific for digital cameras; I'm so frustrated..I take about 5 or 6 pics and it shows low battery.

I buy reg. batteries and they work fine.
Do they just wear out and need to be replaced?

I had a camera like this once. Kept showing 'low battery' any time I used rechargeables.

The problem is that rechargables put out a lower voltage, the camera is (wrongly) sensing a low voltage condition.

If under warranty, take it back.
If it's yours, try just keep taking pictures, might work for hundreds of pics even after the warning.

A trick, if you want to try it, is to put 1 alkaline battery in with the rechargeables. Might bring the voltage up enough to keep shooting. Learned that one from a friend.

Fyi, rechargables are rated by capacity, 2300mah are longer lasting than 1700mah.
