The first week is usually the easiest (I've stopped a few times). The second and third weeks will be the most difficult, because this is when the nicotine is leaving your system completely. You will probably need to adopt a healthy habit during these weeks, chewing gun (not nicotine gum, you'll just get addicted to that), chewing sunflower seeds, etc. Try not to think about it, and DON'T buy a pack. Remove yourself as much as possible from others who smoke during these two weeks. Once you've quite for a month, the withdrawel symptoms should lessen. Also, if you drink alcohol it will probably make you want to smoke, so avoid that if you can. Now is the easiest it will be for you to quite, so if you really want too, just have the motivation and commitment to do it.

weeell it gets a tee bit worse but it's only for the odd moment and over time you kinda get used to it and then the alternative is far worse so you'll be fine.
I mean, you don't really start to have hallucinations and profuse night sweats or any of that, stuff like that is mostly reserved for hard drugs like heroin and even those guys don't all get the heebie jeebies.
Probably you will notice that craving such as you described on your way home, then things return to normal, for some time. This eases up some and then in time it about disappears completely.
As far as I know it only takes 24-48 hours for the nicotine to leave your system, but you never really become un-addicted, so what I mean is even thou you're about over the hump, you can never smoke again.
Now that you know that, it should be ok.

I'm in the same boat. Usually the first 3 or 4 days are the worst. But after that it becomes easier. I didn't notice any withdrawal symptoms. Other than my crabbiness. I'm only a week in a half into it and I think about "them" all the time. But so far I've been strong enough to not go get em. It'll probably be ALONG time b4 you actually get over the addiction.

well it takes nicotine about three to five days to be fully out of your body so after that its all mental. i've tried to quit i few times but i havent been able to so far, i can do a month or so then i get drunk and bum a few cigs and start buying them again. but usualy after the first few days your gonna start really wanting them and its gonna hard to nto buy em so as long as you have enough will power it shouldnt be all too bad. just make sure to not cave in like i always do. best of luck, stay strong

Good luck, Mr. F!
About the headache: You might want to try drinking extra water or Gatorade, or maybe something with ginger in it. Sometimes ginger is remarkably effective against headaches.
