The Richter scale is how the magnitude of an earthquake is measured.

The modified Marcalli scale is how the intensity of earthquakes are measured.

Earthquakes are detected, measured and recorded using seismographs. By using multiple seismographs scientist can determine the location (epicenter) of the quake.

The richter scale measures the intensity of earthquakes. It uses sensors underground or machines that have things like pencils hanging and when the ground shakes, they move making a line graph of how big it is. I take it you're not from California.
