I bought the Vista Home Basic and my cd/rom wont read it....what is the deal?

good luck with that vista needs a significant operating capability to run

The copy of Vista you bought is most likely on a DVD. That's why your CD-ROM drive couldn't read it.

No, I doubt that Vista will run on your computer. You will have to run advisor before you can install it, and chances are (like the above answer mentioned), your computer won't pass the requirements to effectively run Vista.

I would invest in a new computer. Check Dell or Gateway - they have tons of sales all the time. Or even better, build your own!

If you cannot run VISTA. Do a dual boot with UBUNTU or XUBUNTU. These are free, reliable and up to date operating systems. Once you have one of them installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community.

if you are running ME you are using a dinosaur computer, no way will vista run on that.
