Living in LA isn't all it's cracked up to be by other people. Life here is very expensive over all and because of that we are too busy working and trying to get to work while at the same time making time for our families and loved ones that we don't get to see more than maybe once or twice a week. I have family in Texas and I when I go to visit it's a welcomed change they don't have to deal with the L.A traffic. In LA when your on the freeway for 30min. you travel sometimes no more than 7-10 miles distance, in Texas 30 min. on the Freeway is more like 20-30miles distance and the nearest off-road area to go riding or mudding is more than an hour away. I'm a bit of a red neck myself except that I'm actually brown on the outside , but I listen to country, I love Nascar, and I have an old 4x4 Chevy that I take mudding all the time.

Having just moved BACK to the LA area (well, a little north of it), there's no way I'm taking it for granted any more! I lived in a small town I called 'East of civilization and West of BFE' for three years, and it was an eye opener. Sure, LA has it's downsides--a high cost of living, uppity people who tell me how to discipline my kids, etc.--but it's diversity and culture far outshine the idiots and financial burdens. If I want to take my son to a museum, or the zoo, or an amusement park, or the beach, or the mountains, or wherever I want to take him, chances are it's within an hour of LA. I love that about this place!
And yes, there are people in LA who drive trucks and like NASCAR.

LA is the best city in the whole world. I have traveled all over the WORLD and am yet to find a better city. I absolutely don't take where I live for granted. Every morning I wake up to a beautiful day and say to myself, look at where I live. It's amazing.

Los Angeles is a very small city. It has the garment district and bum alley with boxes lined up with homeless people. Los Angeles county is spread out. Most movie stars live in smaller towns and areas throughout the US or Europe.
The film industry used to be here. Its moved on to Toronto Canada and all over the world. Famous stars are mostly from other countries now. Los Angeles made it so difficult to film here because of the high permit costs that it has driven the film industry to cheaper areas.
Yes, you see movie stars once in a while shopping at the local West Hollywood market or walking their dog in Pasadena, but everyone is so jaded about it that they have anonymity. However, the moment they leave that cocoon of their neighborhood, red necks galore fight for their time and its unbearable for them... so, nobody walks in L.A.
I repeat, nobody walks in L.A.
The traffic here is unbearable. So, people who can just get away to the coast and hang out at the beach in a nice peaceful spot on a Monday is blessed.
It's not taken for granted that you can sit on your lawn and read a Newspaper without one single bug attacking you and the weather is very nice. It's also not taken for granted that we can go to the beach, ski at night up in the forest and stay at the Desert all within 48 hours. So, no... I would not want to move somewhere cold, rainy or without enough culture to have something to do all of the time.
That's my point of view from an actress and stunt woman who is treated just like everyone else... thank god.

I have lived in LA my whole life. I recognize shots of my neighborhood in the movies going back almost 60 years. Some times I watch old John Wayne movies and see what the neighborhood looked like before development. Note the word development........lot of it without an eye for urban planning. Thus, there is a lot of congestion.
Seeing stars can seem like a lot of fun, they loose a lot of luster when you get bumped from a long standing hair appointment for your little girl, because they forgot to make an appointment. this happens for dinner too, like my money is not the same as theirs.
This is a city or almost four million. Trust me, there are more middle class, working class and poor people than a few rich spoiled stars. There are more red necks and cowboys than movie stars. They like NASCAR.
Sometimes I wish i could live in a small town where your appointments are honored, the nature of your honorable character is appreciated, and your education is respected. Here, They can focus on their cars, that they live in Beverly Hills, and behave in in a pretentious entitled way.
I sometimes drive to some small towns in area to smell orange blossoms and eat at a diner or local Mexican food. It would be nice to live in a community where my neighbors and I knew each other and cared.

No. It's nothing special and it's ugly here. Unless you have money to go out and do stuff and have fun and the time to do all that, it's a big city and I wish I lived somewhere else. Like in North Carolina or Oregon.

i dont live in LA but i live close and its not this huge glamourous city that you think it is. "Normal" people who live here have jobs and work to pay rent. its not all nice cars and celeb parties. sometimes i do wish i live in a smaller city. i like the outdoors. the city gets boring. i like to hunt, fish, hike... you have to drive places to do that here. on the roads around here you see all sorts of cars, trucks, vans, and any other type of car you can think of. and yes, we do have rednecks of a certain sort, but they dont carry around rebel flags. and no, i cant say its taken for granted, but the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

LA isn't how you are imagining it to be. You don't see Paris Hilton walking down the street and you don't get invited to red carpet events just by living here. I live in Hollywood and its just a tourist town thats overpriced and crowded.
Rent is expensive and I have met less nice people that anywhere else in the US.
Most people who move here by choice enjoy it and like to do extra work and audience work which makes this place unique.
