Looking to find an area in Hawaii to visit that has the least amount of visitors. I like peace and quiet for my first visit. Any suggestions?

Hmmm...

Well if you're serious about getting away from it all. I would go to Molokai or Lanai. Both places are absolutely breathtaking.

However... You might go stir crazy. No people can sometimes mean nothing to do. Think about it for a second. The only people you are likely to see are a few people at the tiny airport and the staff at the one small hotel.

I live here on Oahu and I can only stand the sensory deprivation for about one day before I need to get back to civilization.

Most people go to Oahu or Maui. Lots of people but you'll never run out of options. I believe Maui would be the best place for your first visit. It's no where near as crowded as Oahu but there is still plenty of things to do.

Please go to Kauai. It is the least touristy of all the islands. You can: go to Kapaa, where you can rent canoes and canoe up the Wailua River and then hike to a hidden waterfall about 30=45 minutes away. You can shop at the Coconut Shopping center (near the Wailua River). A great place to stay in Kapaa is Plantation Hale, which is run by Best Western. They are basic apartments that sleep 6 with one bedroom, a pullout couch and large kitchen/and bathroom. The living room is also nice, and it's overlooking the ocean, and within a block's walking distance of the Coconut Shopping center and grocery stores.

If you don't want to canoe by yourself, you can go on the Fern Grotto tour which leaves from Kapaa's Wailua River and they take you to a spectacular lushly covered cave. It's breathtaking, and a great afternoon jetty.

There is a beautiful drive on the way to Koloa town and Brennecke Beach and Poipu Beach through a lengthy row of over=lapping palm trees (many were shaved about 6 years ago during a tropical storm). But they are regrouping, and are once again beautiful! But before you even get to the turn off to Koloa, you'll pass another cool shopping center, Kakui Grove. It's like a regular mall, with lots of surf shops.

Koloa town also has a place to book dirt bikes and 4wheelers for a "dirty" afternoon of fun.

If you are interested in hiking, you can drive past the Grand Canyon of Kauai, and on into the last town on that side of Kauai. Turn right and drive basically uphill. There's even some bicycle shops that will take you on a downhill coast down this mountain, if you check the tour places.
