I am a Registered Dental Hygienist and I can tell you that there is no specific age that a person tends to need a root canal. The problems leading up to a root canal can occur at any age, even as a child (in children it is not called a root canal). Hope this helps!! Oh and there is no 'second round' of fillings. A good filling can last you a lifetime.

There is no average age. It depends on the situation. For
example, if you were in an accident and broke your tooth off,
exposing the nerve, you would need a root canal at any age.
Like, if you got hit in the mouth with a baseball at age 12, you
would still need one. Then you get a crown over the tooth,
because when you take out the tooth's nerve and blood supply
(which is what a root canal does), the tooth will become more
brittle and will break more easily, so you reinforce it by putting
a crown over it, to protect it.

I had one at about age 29 and I was told the reason I needed one is that the dentist who originally filled that cavity did not get out all the original decay, so the bacteria continued to eat away at my tooth from the inside out with a new filling on it until it was too far gone and required a root canal.

37.

Actually, I have no clue, but this seems as good an answer as any. By 37, you are on your second round of fillings (from where the ones that were done in your teen years start to fail) and this is when it's more likely to encounter root canal problems.

True & correct...there is no average age for determining when one may require a root canal. What does determine this is in fact how you look after your teeth. If you don't exercise the hygiene required to maintain your teeth bugs will get in and breakdown tooth structure until they have raveged the nerve of the tooth...it may take a while but if it happens to little kids who don't brush their teeth then it will happen to an adult also...

None.
The first time I had a root canal I was 13.
The second and third time were about two years ago.
