In time but I wouldn't rush into it. Wait until you are ready to accept another pup into your live. It may be tomorrow or even next week. I think you should decide when.

Have faith you will know when it's right.

Maybe - maybe not? If your dog was high energy and that is what you expect in a dog, then you won't be happy unless the new puppy is high energy too.

Example, I had a chihuahua that died. She was full of vim and vinegar and boundless love and affection. I got another chihuahua that was roughly the same size as a replacement. The new puppy was laid back and slept beside me but kept her distance. The new puppy was nice, but was so different, I was very disappointed.

The new puppy grew on me, but it took 6 to 12 months. I changed my expectations too.

If the dog was the love of your life a new dog will help. Don't be in too much of a hurry to pick just any dog. Find a dog that matches your needs, one that you truly feel you can bond with and is equal to or superior to the dog you lost (it may be hard to objectify now) in so far as what traits you find important in a dog.

I am truly sorry for your loss. Good luck!

Yes, But It wont help the day after he died. If you get him so early you will probibly blame your self for "replacing him", Also Don't get a dog, just because you feel like it will make you feel better. You should get a dog when you are ready, and you want a puppy not just because you think it will make you happy. I had a dog that was very close to my heart die, and i got a new dog. It made me feel alot better. Of Corse I love skye (the dog who died) but I am accepting the death because (It sounds wierd) I know that without the death of my first dog, we would never have molly. I can't weigh their importance. I love them equally, its a natural thing. So, Yes it will make you feel better. But only when you are ready.

Speaking from experience, the very best thing for you to do is to get yourself another dog as soon as possible. Just promise yourself before doing so not to pick the first cute face you see. Do a little research about breeds first. Another suggestion, mixed breeds have been the best kind for me so far. They seem to have less health problems, since they are not bread for show. So many pure breads are the product of parent and sibling, sibling with sibling... get the picture? Be careful with adoptions, too. Take them to a vet immediately and test for parvo!!!! Parvo is deadly, and can be contracted from pet parks, and any place other dogs have been. Listen to your heart and grab your keys. You wil;l not be sorry!! Go find yourself a new best friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck. Dawn S. ....Mrs. Kenny S.!

If you are ready. Your new pet will not be the doggy that you loved, it will be it's own unique self. Only you can look into your own heart to answer this question. Are you ready to love a new puppy as much as you did the one you lost? Or do you need to wait a little longer?

Everyone grieves differently so for some getting another dog right away helps for others it does not. If you do decide to get another dog right away just make sure you will be able to love that dog for itself and not because you are expecting it to be exactly like your previous dog. We sometimes look for traits or similarities to our previous dog and then we end up being disappointed because it is not the dog that is missed so much.
If you are ready to accept another dog for itself go get another puppy I believe it will take your mind off the loss. I am sorry for your loss and I understand you pain.

I'm sorry your dog died. I know that can be so hard to deal with.

Getting another dog is not always a good idea right after. You
should respect your dogs memory, and if you want to get
another pet, that's always nice, but it can't be a replacement
for your other dog. They are all different in their own ways.
Sometimes it helps when your grieving, but it might even make
you more upset. Only you know what's going to make
you feel better.

when mine died (of old age), I didn't feel like an "instant" replacement could bring back the magic. For different people, the feeling does vary. It's been almost 5 years before I finally felt ready for another pet! yea, the new pet is really another great delight now.

Yeah.. it may. depending on if you are ready to move on. I just recently lost two dogs in a month, due to od age. And i miss them like crazy. But remember, even if you get a new dog, dont let the memories of your dog. Even if they make you cry, cause those are the best ones. But if you think you want a new puppy, go ahead. just make sure you are ready to go on. good luck, and im sorry ):
