toyota and nissan are reliable and not too cheap to run. honda is the same, but a little more expensive to do repairs. european cars are mostly expensive and temperamental.

i would recommend that you go with either toyota or honda, those two brand are probably one of the most reliable car manufactures out there, plus since they both have sold lots of cars, trying to find parts for their cars won't be very expensive. From toyota, i would say get the camry, you could get the corrola also, but i think the camry is more upscale and more comfortable, but both cars are really good, fuel efficient, and very reliable. If you want a honda, i would definately recommend getting the accord 4dr or the honda civic sedan, again those two are the best cars offered from honda. I don't think you'll go wrong picking from these 4 cars, all are very reliable, easy to find parts for, long lasting, fuel efficient, and won't put a dent in your wallet.

I would say the manufactuer is a big factor, but keep this in mind: Is the person or dealer selling the car reputable? I sell inexpensive used cars. You would think a 99 Honda Civic with 65,000 miles on it and a clean carfax would be a safe bet. It usually is, but sometimes that 'same car' was hit 5x, raced, engine replaced and has a bad electrical system. If that person repaired that car himself, chances are carfax will have that car as clean, and the buyer has himself a problem car. Hey it happens to us too, all I can say is do your homework.

Yep, Toyota, I had an 87 camry with about 287,000 miles on it and it lasted longer than my newer domestic cars. I would go with an import car if not toyota, such as nissan or honda also. I still see people from when their older cars were brand new and they're still driving them! My brother had an 86 and it just barely broke down this year, so, go with one of the imports.
