My cat is a 2 year old healthy, neutered male. He has had all his shots, and is a well-fed, indoor-outdoor pet. Occasionally, I have detected the most horrible smell from his bottom - it is not urine, and it is not feces. Once he jumped up on my lap, and the smell was so bad it got into my clothes, and I had to change. I have read about blocked anal glands, but I know nothing about this condition, although I've had cats all my life. Could it be this, or perhaps he's gotten into something outside and eaten a dead animal? Any helpful feedback? Please, no silly answers...Thanks in advance.

You can take him to most groomers or vet but groomer is better priced. They can express anal glands. If you say this is a continued problem you may want to try diet change with maybe more fiber to keep him more regular which may help with glands as well. If all else fails you may want take him regularly to get his glands expressed or learn to do it yourself while bathing him it is better than having it express unexpectly.

Cats generally have not got an issue with their anal glands, so it fairly is quite uncommon. How is the cat's poop? generally employer poops do adequate urgent while the cat removes that the anal glands empty out interior the approach. If the poop is basically too gentle it fairly is not going to press on the glands because of the fact the cat makes use of the clutter field. Feeding a nutrition that doesn't make the stool so gentle could remedy the undertaking of the impacted glands.
