when you are typing and you mess up and you click back on the word and fix it why does it delete the letter in front of it and how do you fix it

Try this: Look at the bottom of the screen - to the right. See if the OVR is clicked (overwrite feature) & unclick it.

It can also be the difference between hitting the backspace key or hitting the delete key. Backspace is set by default to delete the letters in front of the cursor, whereas delete will, well, delete the letters behind the cursor. Sometimes it is as simple as the button you hit... I was a Mac native prior to my current PC career, and when my fingers first toyed with a PC keyboard the difference between those two keys... I would smack the keyboard around for toying with my emotions... er... anyway. This was just a thought, in case the keys were the issue... if not, then whatever someone else here says might be right too! Good luck!
