i would expect her to come up to me and say something like, "so, i hear you think i'm cute?" and we'd see how it goes from there. for most guys its a little more than simply a compliment. if we pass it through our friends it means we like them.

Can't speak for the guys but I know I would at least like to hear a "thank you." If you are fishing for a compliment, it probably won't turn out the way you want it to. If you were sincere and just wanted this person to know you found them attractive, you shouldn't expect any thing more than a thank you.
