I checked on wikipedia.com and many other websites to see if what I was having was that and if it was real. Have any of you experienced this? or have you ever heard of it and know the cause of it?

Yes, I had alot before on my crappy bed... it mostly happens when I lay on my back but it can happen when I'm on my side. It feels like someone is sitting on my chest, crushing my lungs, squeezing all the air out of my body... I usually fight it off quickly as soon as I have the tingly feeling as soon as I wake up (or at least I think I am). They talked about it on some sort of documentary on Discovery Channel or TLC and it scared the hell outta me that I couldn't sleep for a week.

It's like your body hasn't woken up yet, but your mind is well aware of your surroundings at the same time. Some say that you are half asleep and dream and feel something or someone is there.

My problem was solved when I got a new bed and it rarely happens. One of the causes is stress, not having enough sleep... you must have enough of those consistently, and I guess sleep on a comfortable bed (like in my case).

I have it. It happens to me quite often. If I don't get up and walk around for a few minutes after it happens It will continue all night long. Even tho I get extremely wiped out after struggling to move I force myself to get up. Also I have realized that it only happens when I sleep on my back so I always try to sleep on my side.

This has happened to me. But only when i lie on my back. It usually happens close to the time that i go to sleep. I find it more annoying then scary. I just can't move.
