My dad said that when he was younger he used to have a bb gun and he loved it. so i was going to get him one for his birthday.
He definently wouldn't want something really complicated, so i just need a fun, simple little bb gun. I know nothing about guns, so what kind would i be looking for and where could i get one? Thanks! (^_^)

While your dad has fond memories of a BB gun as a kid, I'm not too sure that he would want a BB gun as an adult. However, there are plenty of airguns that are adult oriented that he might consider. These differ from BB guns in that they shoot pellets (various types) and are available in price from under $100.00 up to $2500.00 for the true airgun enthusiast.

Your dad might be satisfied with a pump-up version of Crosman, Sheridan or Benjamin models that usually run in the $150.00 range. The spring-piston or pre-charged pneumatic sport versions that are imported from England or Germany are more adult oriented, can range from $250.00 to $1200.00, and can be used for back yard plinking as well as small game hunting out to 50 yards or so.

Before spending the money, I would find out what he would want to do with it and, because it is a personal choice, ask him to go with you to make the choice.

The are very few airgun specialty shops that can provide you with a real option. However, I know of one in So. Calif called Air-Venture Airguns. I'm sure they have a web sight that you can find. Good luck.

I just bought my G/F son a Red Ryder and it is a good little gun out to about 20-25 ft after that it is hard to hit anything. If it were me buying one for my dad I would take him along and have him pick the one out that he would use and like to have so that way you know that it will have a better chance of being used and not just sitting in the cornor. It may spoil a surprise but he may have more enjoyment this way.

When I was young I had a Red Ryder BB gun with a wooden stock. When my son was about 7 years old I bought him one just like it but it was a plastic stock. They just don't make them like they use to. I would go to a gun shop or try EBay for a good used one. I'm sure your dad would want one with a wooden stock. I still have mine and my oldest Grandson will get it when he is old enough to take good care of it.

I like the Crosman BB guns, they make some that you can pump up to different levels of velocity. I believe it is still call ed the 760 powermaster. You can mount a scope on it and still be relatively inexpensive. Really fun to shoot it at tin cans and put the bbs in the same hole when you're shooting good.

Try airsoft. All airsoft is is a bb gun that shoots a plastic bb. Airsoft guns are pretty safe to use, all you really have to wear is safety glasses. They are lower power than a BB gun and you can shoot them indoors or out in your yard. There are a bunch of website that you can purchase airsoft guns and ammo at, and you can also find them at your nearest Wal-Mart.
