I respect their position if not the individual- I cannot force myself to respect an individual simply because of their status. For example, I respect the office of president of the U.S. and would never want anything to happen to George Bush- but I don't respect him personally. I think he is a poor leader. As far as obedience, I believe they should be obeyed as long as doing so does not compromise my obedience to God.

A leader has to earn respect, and no, I won't blindly "obey" a leader, again, they must prove to me that they are trustworthy, intelligent and worthy of my allegiance. For instance, I don't respect George Bush nor will I obey him, he is worthless as a leader.

Yes. To pray for them. Obey them in the Lord. If they tell you to do something unlawful or ungodly, then don't obey them, because God's law is above our leaders.
In some countries ungodly leaders are in position and the people suffer. Like Japan. New understanding that they were some of the early Christian church, until ungodly leaders came into power and martyred Christians for many years. Now, in their economic growth, many are turning to God again.

Not when the leader that was chosen then disrespects us and doesnt obey the Constitution of the United States.
You are aware that Hitler was voted into power, right? Would you respect and obey him?

i do not believe that any leader serves the greater good of the community he "rules", because absolute power corrupts absolutely. my values mean nothing if i respect individuals who sacrifice their morals for the sake of their own greed.
people, not politicians, should be in charge of their own communities and decide how to interact within their society and with other cultures. as far as blind obedience is concerned, it is a characteristic of only those individuals who are too ignorant to think for themselves.

If the person is an honest, good person........then yes.
I'm not so sure the word 'obey' should be used in this context, however. Usually that applies to God, parents, grandparents, etc.

It would depend on who choose them, wouldn't it?
Respect is given to those who have earned it.
One only obeys the people who are in charge of them, and even then only if the orders they give are legitimate and legal.

Respect, yes, but leaders can be wrong so I wouldn't necessarily obey them.

Remember, leaders don't always act for the good of the people they represent. Willful ignorance is the surrender of control.
