Gods come from the human imagination.

We are a successful species because our intelligence has allowed us more control over own environment than any other, but the nature of that intelligence is such that we tend to make false positives - i.e. we feel or imagine intelligent agents behind natural phenomena when they are not really there. If we *didn't* have this characteristic then the next time the grass rustled and we incuriously ignored it, then we would likely end up as a lion's breakfast, so having a certain amount of false positives is the price we pay for being able to protect ourselves from real threats. Religious belief is largely an accidental by-product of that aspect of human nature, bestowed upon us by evolution.

This can even be shown in the laboratory, by stimulating a certain area of the brain - the subject often reports a sense of a presence, an intelligent agent - so this may well be a part of the brain which has evolved to deal with this aspect of human nature.

Belief in heaven and hell comes from a reluctance to accept the fact that when we die, we simply cease to exist.

I think 1 & 2 but also 3, because they just personally want to or 4, 5, 6, etc, those being any number of reasons, it is a personal thing. I'll be totally honest and say why I believe and that is because not believing didn't make my life any better, infact it sort of made it worse, for me, a world without a greater purpse or reason, besides survival of the fitist, is fearful and when I say believe, I'm not talking any religion in particualer, I'm just saying I believe there is more to life then what we can see with our eyes or figure with our sciences. It's not a very technical answer but I hope my perspective helps.

in case you suspect in Heaven and Hell that makes you an agnostic or a theist. because of fact in case you an atheist there's no rules for what you may have self assurance, yet once you start up believing those issues you may not be classed as atheist anymore.

Well I believe that Adam and Eve knew God very well and so they had no doubt about his existence and this knowledge was passed down until now. If you believe that God inspired the Bible then you know he talks about Heaven and Hell a lot.

because people would rather believe in anything other then nonexistence.
heaven and hell make things safe for some. everything is ordered.
what's wrong with a little chaos?

the same thing is basically true of belief in god. people want to know that there is someone watching over them. that we aren't here because of an accident in space, and we didn't crawl out of the ooze billions of years ago.
people want to believe in a creator.

Ya know... it's only "before" someone reads the Bible for themselves that they ask this question. All the wisdom and knowledge we need is in the Bible, if we would only read it! And someday, (according to the Bible), believe it or not... we each will be standing before the Lord to answer for what we did while on Earth? What are you gonna say THEN?... "well... I didn't believe there was a God", or "I didn't believe in the Bible"... OOOPS - WRONG ANSWER!
