Every dog sheds ... Yorkies tend to shed less than many breeds, but most human allergies to dogs or cats are not allergies to their hair. These allergies are predominantly to the saliva and/or dander (dead skin). Keeping your dog well-groomed and nutritionally balanced (good high-quality food) will reduce the amount of dander on the pet, thus making allergies more manageable.
There is also a product called AllerPet-D that is applied topically to a dog and helps reduce the allegens on the dog.
Good luck!

Hi, we just got a yorkie because of my husband's severe-not deadly cat allergies. Here is what we've learned. There is no such thing as a truely hypo allergenic dog and some people just can't tolerate any animal. My husband got tested by his allergist and was told yorkie would be fine. When we visited the breeder he began to get a bit stuffy but no watery eyes and no icthes. We were worried and thought maybe because the breeder has 7 adult dogs andfabric couches air fresheners etc. We have now had the yorkie a month. My husband is still mildly allergic in this way. If the puppy scratches him he will get localized itche bumps. If he handles him too much he'll get mildly stuffy and itchy but just a sudafed 's worth. Never worse than that. As a matter of fact i think he is getting used to him . We have had a cat briefly and at this point my husbands reactions were escalating one on another. Good news is no shedding but you'll have to keep a short haircut and if allergies are bad you can bath the dog 2x a week-his skin can handle it. So visit a dog owner first before you get your hopes up but it may work out well as it did with us!

Poodles are really good. My dad practically explodes when he's near a cat. We had a toy poodle for 12 years and nobody ever had an allergy problem with her.

Yes, that's true. My niece has a silky haired Yorky due to her severe allergies. She has no trouble at all with her little dog.

Most people who are allergic to cats are not allergic to dogs anyway.
