Well there is this lake I fish that is really dirty and shallow................ its only 3 feet deep! But its fairly large. Do carp need deep water to grow over 5 punds? However, during the evening there are tons of carp that jump out of the water a lot of them. Ive fished it 4 times for about 2 hours each time and my catch has been mostly around 10 inches with my bigges one around 15 inches

the carp havn't got a choice to live in there or not!! they don't stop growing??? YES of course they're could be 5lb carp in there, they could even grow bigger if theres enough food in there they can feed on, if it's pretty shallow then through pieces of bread on the surface (about the size of a a 10p coin), you'll see little fry & smaller carp nudging the bread on the surface about..but only a big carp will take the bread in one go sucking it into there mouths, just watch & wait!! you should be able to estimate the size then (if not be patient & catch one! ; )good luck!!
try lunchean meat & corn on the bottom too....

I live in Ohio and most all of the lakes I fish are muddy and 3 feet deep. This is a carps paradise and should have some monster carp in it!!! Carp love the mud and move to the shallow to spawn around late March to early May depending on your location.
If there are carp there you will see them during this period and in fact will actually hear them "sucking" on the surface preparing for spawn.
I guarantee you have some huge carp just keep looking. As for bait, try regular old canned corn, they cannot resist it!!!

I live in MI.and I fish for carp all the time while fishing for other species.I've found that going to the local bread outlet store and loading up on bread you can get the carp feeding constantly by chumming them on a regular basis to a specific area.Go out every chance you get and feed them some bread balls(simply ball the bread up in small golf ball size pieces and throw it out to your casting range). When you want to fish bring a can pf corn throw some on a hook ,some in the water sit back and wait You can also throw a bread ball on a hook UN-weighted pinch it on well and have fun.The bread in the water also attracts other fishes cats, bluegill,etc... I myself fish one rod with the bread and one rod with a lure and catch almost anything that swims.IT WORKS.When I fish with crawlers you never know what will hit.Carp can grow large in very shallow water and need very little oxygen to survive.do what I said and you"ll see.

no carp only need about 2 feet to grow to there maximim if there is three foot of water and quiet a large lake, try getting into the middle of the lake to get the larger ones near all the snags and holes. you will probably find the smaller ones prefer the bank. and the younger ones jump more so if you see them jumping try a new spot.

They don't as far as I'm aware, since I don't think the legendary Redmire Pool is that deep from what I could tell from watching TV series "A Passion for Angling"..... about 3acres in size, and about waist high, yet had fish grown to 40 - 51lb's in weight.
