I've had a fever for 3 days now, peaking 103 wednesday night (almost went to the ER but tried motrin, slight cool bath, and cool ice packs on neck/forehead..that brought it down)..However when I went to the doctor wednesday, he wasn't sure what I had..My only symptom is a fever that goes up and down, other than that i seldomly feel a bit of nausea. I had an ear infection for a few months now that didnt clear up with medicine, but the doctor said it should cure itself, and I did have a flu shot in early fall; also, there was a GI bug going around at my work, but I don't have diahria, and I haven't thrown up...Anyone have this illness? How long did it last? I'm so sick of laying in bed!

sometimes random viruses or bacteria cause fever. If you don't get better or get worse go back to the doctor. Ear infections are close to the brain don't let it go on to long. Unfortunately, need blood tests to tell if anything seriously wrong. For the fever, as long as you don't have liver problems you can alternate Tylenol with Motrin every 4 hours and should help you feel better from the side effects of the fever.

The ear infection may have gone dormant and periodically flairs up. This would explain the nausea and dizziness. I think a second opinion would definitly be in order. Get in to see another doctor (I think an ENT would be the specialty type) as soon as you can and get the current doctor to fax over your records before you show up for your appointment. You could also get them to copy them for you to hand carry them with you.
You have every right to this second opinion and your insurance should cover it due to the lack of a certain diagnosis from the first doctor.

Usually if the fever isn't making you too lathargic you should let it run it's course. The fever kills the bug, your body is just doing it's job. If you still have the ear infection I would go to the doctor again for a stronger antibiotic, or a new doctor!!

Looks like a viral infection. Should clear up in another couple of days. Your doctor is the best person to help you if needed.

Sounds like your ear infection didn't clear up on it's own and is still there. You probably need another round of anti-biotics for your ear.

For the ear...consult with an ENT physician (ear, nose and throat). Hope you feel better.
