So archers all over the world had problems defending themself during close quarter combat because they had to put down their bow and draw thier sword (if they had one). My idea is why not attach a blade to the end of the bow, making it a spear. Has anybody ever done this in history? Tell me what you think.

but if you used a longbow then your sword would have to be 5 feet long to reach me! i would just be carefull not to get my bow chopped in half. But then again i'm sure it's thicker than you might think you never know it might be a good spear.

It would probably be to top heavy to shoot properly.if it was a light enough blade maybe.make one and see.and get back to us, good luck on that.that would be great if you could come up With that.I sure would to see one.and use one.
That would come in handy after the next war.nucleor.when all we will have is sticks and stones and bows and arrows.

No, the wood wouldn't hold as a spear. If you tried to fight with the sword part you would break your bow. It would probably not shoot very well either. Good thing to be thinking about though.

Not good because of the flexibility of the bow. Besides, if I had my sword against your bent spear, with the flick of the wrist you've got a stub. Then what?

Gunny would smack you!

Why not add on a microwave oven as well?

After the bow breaks, you have 2 completely worthless pieces of crap.

I think the French probably tried something like that.
