I WISH! Would be nice wouldn't it?!! I have 5, but no such luck!
However, if you have a business, the dog (trained for guard work)can be considered a business expense if the dog stays at the business during closed hours!

No, and if this discussion included the idea of getting a tax break if dogs reached the status of having a guardian rather than being owned, please caution yourselves. If humans are by law guardians of dogs that many things will occur. Spaying and neutering might not be allowable, but veterinary expenses would reach the monetary amount of human medical care. The list is endless, and the consequences so extreme that experts are saying if dogs have guardians instead of owners no one will want to have a dog at all.

If they are certified working dogs, their upkeep (food and vet bills) are tax deductible.
I've been taking my dogs' expenses off on my taxes for the last 12 years without a problem.

Nope, sorry. The only kind of break you get is if you have a spayed or neutered dog when it comes time to buy liscenses for them (atleast in WI).

Not legally. It's a pet. They have no potential to be a future taxpayer, so no reason to give a tax break for having one.

If the dog is required for your job/business, or is used in an "assisted living" situation, then yes. If it's just a pet, then no.

No Pets are not dependents. I mean no for tax purposes. I agree with you that they should, I have 2 cats and I spend a lot of money on my babies.
