Vatican II began the biggest part of the exodus from the convents... many nuns didn't like the changes, and things only kept changing for the worst as many nuns continued to develop "issues" with their particular convents, and some left because of their "issues" with the OLD way things were run. Each nun leaves because of her own reasons, so it's really hard to narrow it down into any ONE thing.

Not now but with the full blown post Vatican II party they did. It was too bad. Now they are the ones you always see on the t.v. saying "Oh, I want to be a priest and blah, blah, blah........." It's like if they couldn't do the nun thing faithfully why would you make them a priest for God's sake? (I mean that literally)
