Nothing is going right for me. There is a clockwork feeling within me, I feel unconscious. I feel like school has taken away my independent thought, I feel like I have succumb to the weight of society, I'm only in Grade 8 and I already feel like I'm going to have lower chances in life because I'm not a straight A student. How do I relax my mind and be happy?

Just because you are thinking these kind of thoughts makes me think that you might be a poet. You are a deep thinker. Try creative writting. You have a lot going on up in you head...get it out.

Honestly, grades aren't everything. Even if you don't have a 4.0 you still have many, many opportunities for further education and other things in life. School is really not such a big deal. (Don't get me wrong; I'm working on a Ph.D. degree, but what I mean is that life is not only about school; there are other parts of it too.) Perhaps you can have a better time if you participate in some activities at school that you enjoy. For example, you could join the choir or the orchestra, write for the newspaper, join the drama club, participate in school politics, etc. I think you'll value those experiences later.

There's a lot of stress in life these days for everyone. But it's really hard for students with all the homework and pressure.

Straight a students do not necessarily have a good life. Try to find what works for you. Meditation is very calming and helpful. It doesn't need to be complicated - just take a long slow breath in, hold for a slow count of 4, then release the breath for another count of four. Do this whenever you feel tense. It will help centre and calm you.

If you're really feeling badly, ask your Mom to take you for counselling help. Sometimes the right counsellor can set you on a better path.

Good luck to you.

You're feeling a bit wound huh? That's normal and part of jr. high. It seems you must be a very sensitive person to be taking so much on your shoulders at such a young age. Where did you ever get the impression that your early preformance means everything in your career goals??? Don't worry so much, if your grades a decent and you consistantly are trying you'll be ok. Get yourself involved in some extra activities that are just about having fun and being a kid (cause you still are one!)

Aside from WAITING FOR PUBERTY TO PASS (you're in the 8th grade; its normal for you to feel like crap right now), if its your grades you are really worried about, make it your GOAL to bring everything up JUST ONE letter grade by the end of the school year. Working that hard toward your goal will empower you and make you feel SO good. Hang in there; the 8th grade sucks, but I can tell that you'll be just fine. Remember, SET A REASONABLE GOAL, then GO FOR IT!

Don't let things get you overwhelmed. Don't be so up tight about having straight A's. Do the best that you can do. That is all that should be expected of you. If you have a goal, try all that you can to achieve it, but set goals that are acheivable. Relax, just be a teen.
