the registry is a huge data base used by windows when you uninstall something things sometimes get left behind over time the registry gets large with invalid entry's which causes windows to run slow and crash if the registry is damaged windows will not start
cclean is a free registry cleaner and more it's good it also clears caches and temp files out get it here http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/CCleaner-Download-8851.html

i imagine the question must be 'it really is the least risky'. As you're traditionally wakeful the registry is the basic element of residing house windows. in case you corrupt it then residing house windows would probable no longer artwork wisely. i take advantage of CCleaner (themes decision) because it makes a backup of the entire keys it really is about to delete so that they'd nicely be in a position to without difficulty be restored if issues pass worng.

yes they are all right CCleaner is brilliant, I also once a month go to windows liive one care and do a scan by them, it always finds things that CCleaner misses. You do not need to download the 90 day free trial as the scan itself is free, whenever you go to the site http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/center/cleanup.htm
Also I reccomend only downloading CCleaner from the offical site which is http://www.ccleaner.com/
