I hope to join the military after I get out of high school and I have been interested in joining either the Marines or Navy all my life. I don't want to be just an everyday grunt or sailor, though. I figure if I'm going to join I might as join one of the more elite squads. Which brings me to my point. Should I join either the USMC Recon (my uncle was in this) or become a Navy EOD (explosive ordanance disposal). These are the two specialties I'm really looking into. Thanks.

In case no one told you,,,you can be in the Marines and be an EOD/Underwater demo man. That was my MOS and I was there for 25 years. They have EOD in every branch of the service. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marines. When I went to EOD school, all branchs went to the same school at Indian Head, Maryland. I don't know what they do in this day and time.

Being a former Marine myself makes quite partial the USMC. Having said that, I believe it depends on what you plan to do with the rest of your life. Both branches offer similar packages as far as a career goes, ie. air traffic control, food services, heavy equipment operators, etc. If you choose to make a career of the Armed Services the Navy is definitely an easier way of life, but who wants to be a sluggard. The Marines would be my choice for a twenty or more years Armed Services career. If you plan to get out after your first hitch then I would base my choice on the training I would receive to help me get a desired job upon separation. Some tips: law enforcement - USMC, food service - Navy, heavy equipment - Navy, air traffic or pilot - USMC, and so on.

I can only give you the perspective from the wife....I've been married to my Marine for 15 years...

There is such a sense of pride that comes with being a Marine (and a Marine wife). Even out of uniform, you can spot a Marine. They are the toughest out of all the branches. And they really don't have the best duty stations. But there is something to be said about being a Marine. Either way you choose, make sure it is what YOU want to do. But look into both.
Oh yeah....nobody and I mean nobody looks better in uniform than a Marine in his Dress Blues.

Oorah it's true nothing looks better then a Marine in their dress blues. They also hold the torch for honor and dignity. They have the best and I repeat THE BEST TRAINING. They don't just teach you to shoot a weapon, but my advice is to take your asvab see what you qualify for and go from there. Semper Fi

Always faithful

(US Navy Seals is a top-class elite group but it takes some serious determenation and effort, physically and mentally)

You know, if the American military was protecting and helping America it would be great. But it's not. It's trespassing and blowing up weak countries to steal their oil while places like New Orleans goes to hell. You'd just be another brainwashed, expendable killer, doing shock and awe duty for a lying Bush gang, costing US taxpayers millions.

With all the choices a young man has, the military is the worst.

I would look in to CTU. It's almost like a mix of both.

USMC fights the battles...
Navy gives them a ride to the fight.
