When a girl falls for a guy friend, the situation can get messy. You really need to consider how he could react if you tell him how you really feel. Would you want to risk your friendship for that? There always is the possibility that he could say yes, and many great relationships are built upon that foundation. The best way to try and make the most of your conflict is to approach the problem in the right way. First, you should confide in him that you trust him and want him to listen to you. "We have a great friendship, and you always are here for me. I hope you are the kind of person that I can tell anything to without being judged in the wrong way. I trust you, and want you to listen to me. I never want anything that I say to mess up our friendship." Make sure he is listening!!!! That is the most important detail. Next, just tell him. Offer him a smile and say, "I know this must be hard to accept, but I thought you were better off finding out. I would have rather have told you myself then let it get to you in a damaging rumor."
You can also start lightly flirting with him instead. Keep it up for a few weeks and see how he takes it. Does he flirt back, tolerate it or shrug it off? If all is positive, say, "Hey, I want to see [movie name], and I was wondering if you wanted to come with me... you know, like on a date. I know it's a little different than what we usually do, but I thought we could try it out. I'm good on Saturday, but how about you?"

As a guy, let me assure you that we prefer to be asked directly. One popular technique is to casually hint at wanting a date until he gets the idea and asks you out. This is fine as well.

Make sure that however you ask him, you go about it quickly. There are many fish in the sea, and any one of them could take him from you.

Just be upfront and honest with him. he won't know what's going on unless you tell him. The worst thing that can happen is rejection but don't let that ruin your friendship.

Ask him if he would like to grab a dinner and a movie (your treat) or double dutch... or mini golf, or whatever youngsters are into these days =o)

Don't do it. It's too late. Once you land in that "friends only" category, it's almost impossible to get out.
