here's a little philosophy behind the buddha's enlightenment. According to his belief, his enlightenment was reached through the access of his spiritual nature, which he said has no nexus, since it was unified and undifferentiated. So his claim was that because "enlightenment" has no nexus tangent to the physical world, nothing could be said of him that was true, in other words, one can not comment on the nature of his true self, since only the state itself knew its self.
So was he the coolest dude ever? Basically he came up with a claim that rejected all claims about himself. So in his mind he was taintless. The more you study it, the more you realize that he didn't have an ego problem, but great spiritual knowledge, and I'd say that's pretty dam* cool.

He wore little... in that environment, under a bodhi tree... yeah I'd say he was the coolest. (grin) Hey I'm prejudiced since I'm Buddhist so of course it's not fair of me to answer anything any other way.

Yes he was way cool. He had no ego problems, he had no issues with anyone good or bad. To me his message seems to be: No matter what we do, it will all work out for the best in the end.

I prefer to think that Jesus was. He spread a message that so many people fell for and provided me untold opportunities to argue with them. Praise Jesus. And Allah, too.
