Lately, there have been no good questions in the R&S section. I guess its up to me to give a good question to relieve those people who sit around for hours, waiting for a good question.
Now the question:
Explain the dadly sin of sloth. Why is it a deadly sin? If you can, include Scripture.
The most elaborate (and correct) answer will be chosen as the best one.
Have fun!

***deadly sin. Sorry for the typo.
And, I find it funny that the question is about laziness, and some people answer that they're too lazy to answer it!

Here is one piece of Scripture about sloth:
Proverbs 10:4
Laziness leads to poverty; hard work makes you rich.

In the Christian moral tradition, sloth (Latin: accidia, pigritia) is one of the seven capital sins, often called the seven deadly sins; these sins are called the capital sins because they lead easily to other sins. Sloth is defined as spiritual and/or actual apathy or laziness, putting off what God asks you to do, or not doing it or anything at all. Acedia is a Latin word, from Greek akedia, literally meaning "absence of caring".
Sloth can also concern wasting due to lack of use or allowing entropy, expanding into almost any person, place, thing, skills, or intangible ideal that would require maintenance, refinement and/or support to continue to exist.
Several religious views concerning the need for one to work to support society and further God's plan and work by doing so reflects that by not being active alone, you invite the desire to sin on its own. "For Satan finds some mischief still for idle hands to do" Isaac Watts.
The meaning of sloth as a vice closely follows the meaning of the Greek word "akedia": "absence of caring". A student who neglects his studies to pursue another interest, such as martial arts or filming, does not necessarily commit the sin of sloth. Perhaps he should restructure his priorities, but the student does not necessarily display a spiritual decay, a lack of interest in anything, and thus is not slothful. A student who took no interest in anything requiring great effort, but preferred to watch television and play video games, might well be slothful.

Idle hands are the devils workshop. Sloth, or the sin of sloth is centered around that old saying which is every true. With nothing at hand to do constructive then one seeks something to do which is often something bad. Another words if one stays busy most of the time it is not likely that one will seek out something
else to do. Which is one reason why the Amish keep their old time values and ways. Amish children do not have time to get into trouble and by 8:00 PM they are tired and ready for bed. When most things are done by hand, that keeps one busy and all one thinks about is the next chore.

I'm pretty sure the 'deadly' sins are part of Catholic dogma....it's in a book somewhere.....
It's not from the bible directly.
Sloth is being a fat lazy pig with no motivation, can't hold down a job because they don't show up for work and if they do go to work they do crappy, lazy, half-a*s work and complain the whole time (basically, they don't want to work), couch/computer potato.
the opposite of diligence (a great Chinese value).
Edit: And in response to the new proverb you put forth: WELL NO DAH! Thank you bible for pointing out the obvious. The Chinese figured that one out at around the same time, Gee, how did they do that without the right God?

From a Buddhist perspective... obviously laziness gets nothing learned and accomplishes no altruism... hence the negative effects.
