I think it stinks. First you have to beg someone to see ya. Than you have to wait for months for an appt. That's IF you can find a v.a. to go to that isn't 100 miles away. Than your paper work gets lost. Than they have people (doctors) that are only short term. About the time you do get things meshing with your doctor some other flunky comes in and takes their place.
Ok done with the rant. I think it needs to be completely overhauled. They need doctors to come up with what they need without fear of reprisal. They should not have to fight budget cuts every year. Having some politician say what the v.a. needs is like having some pencil pusher setting in Washington calling the shots on how to fight a war ...........Oh wait they do that already.

A perfect example of socialized health care. I live 5 miles from a VA hospital and don't even bother. They have contacted me, wanting me to "register" with them so they can get a better budget. Just wait until there is free health care for all.

You can thank Hillary Clinton for the destruction of the military and veteran health care system in 1993, and now it is only going to get worse because the far left dems. stacked the board so they can cut even more benefits( 1.9 billion dollar increase in fees alone to veterans/retirees). F/U very much!

Mostly this is due to poor management and too much red tape. They need to hire better people, many of the aids act as if they hired out to a VA hospital to retire.

There is Fee Basis treatment, which any vet can apply for. This allows a vet to see a local doc and pharm-x, without having to drive hundreds of miles to see a doc or pharm-x.

The system treats me OK but it could be better. ( Detroit V.A. Hospital ) The people who work there are very nice and they do work hard but they ( Hospital ) is always underfunded. If you need to see a doctor it may take 6 months to see one. If one needs to see a Doctor like "NOW" you are out of luck. I believe most of the money is going to the Iraq people to help them.

I don't think it would be ever"too broken" to fix. We just need a little more money in it.

This will be your standard of healthcare if you nationalize healthcare and put it in the hands of the government.
