I want to know more about the field, I am a female and I'm trying to see if I want to do it.

Another male. CAD isn't really a male or female type of profession, in my opinion. Both can be good at it. What it really comes down to is whether you think you will enjoy it or not. Learning the program(s) and learning to solve puzzles and such can be very enjoyable. The job itself can be very variable depending on the company or specific situation. Some jobs are very fast paced with lots of variety, some are more repetitive and boring. Often it depends on the amount of skill you bring to the table. It might help others answer your question better if you have a specific field you are interested in because it really does vary by field. Four main fields that come to mind:

Architectural - buildings and associated systems
Electrical - electrical diagrams or circuit boards
Civil - surveying and building roads, bridges, etc.
Mechanical - making things out of metal, plastics, etc...

Good luck!

I'm a man, but I have worked with lots of female CAD designers. Its a really great field for men and women. I've worked with more women in PCB CAD design (circuit board layout) than mechanical design, but there are lot of them too. If you like working on the computer and find things like puzzles fun to do I really recommend it. It helps if you are very detail oriented and have good visualization skills. Best thing to do is take an intro class at a Jr. college and see if you enjoy it.

I just took a class on it and hated every minute of it, but if you like staring at a computer screen for hours then maybe it would work for you. It is a great program and can be very useful and is pretty easy to learn though.
