Yes, If you have a registered veh with DMV you are always required to have insurance. If you go more than 30 days without insurance, the insurance company can charge an additional 20% when you do insure it.

In California (and in many states) the roundabout answer is yes by the following logic.

1) To park it on the public street the car needs to have current registration.

2) To get a car registered you MUST have a current insurance polcy which covers the car.

3) Under new rules, insurance pollicies (and their cancellations) are reported electronically to the DMV so the policy must be maintained or the registration is suspended (you get a letter from the DMV).

If you park it OFF the public street you can get a Non-Operational registration renewal .

yes, you need insurance no matter where you park it, unless u put it in storage i guess
