If he was just barely neutered he may still be uncomfortable. If you are picking him up or even getting too close to him. He may still be "protecting his wounds" I'd say give him time. ( I mean come on...you did just cut out his masculinity...How would you feel about it! :) ) No, seriously, give him time. If he keeps being irritable and he starts looking sick take him to the vet. I wouldn't worry just yet.

I agree that one important factor is... how long ago he was neutered? It generally takes a few days or even a few weeks to get feeling normal after that experience. But the growling does seem like a cause for concern. He might be telling you that he is in pain. Check the sutures or "area" carefully (if you can get near ;-) and make sure he's healing well. It could an infection of some kind that is making him "mean." But if it's only been a day or so since the surgery, he's probably just cranky and will settle.
Good luck!

How long ago did you get him neutered? A vet visit can be very scary for a pet. They are surrounded by people, devices, and maybe animals they do not know. Your cat may just need some extra care and attention from you due to his fear that he had to face. However, if he was recently neutered and now he is acting differently you should contact his vet to ensure that nothing went wrong with the neutering process. Even if it has been a while since he was neutered, cats do not just wake up one day and decide to start growling frequently and the best thing you can do is take him to a vet to determine is he is acting this way due to not feeling well.

he may be in pain...have you checked his incisions if pus is present? Give him a little time and patience. I'm sure he'l bounce back to normal. If his incision has pus, clean it with cotton bals soaked in hydrogen peroxide (you may have to bundle kitty in a towel so he cannot scratch and struggle... but he'll be mad! I am guessing but perhaps he did not like his experience at the vets (plenty of other pets; staying insode a cage, being handled by strange people, etc...) and is still a little aggro about it. :( Give him a little time and plenty of peace to calm down.

If one's balls were cut off, i'm sure they would do much worse things too you then growl LMAO.

But yeah, he'll get over it, my cat was desexed too. Just give him a couple of days. I'm sure he is more mad at you for takin him too the vet tho. That's the case with my cat.

Buy him cat treats! works like a charm :P

that depends on your cats other behaviour. Is he just growling? if he is and will still let you near him and his other behaviour is normal then i wouldn't worry too much - he might be abit sore from being fixed and will probably be ok with abit of time and TLC. If he is being agressive in other ways (like alot more biting than normal/hissing) then..... i dunno. Maybe phone your vet to ask if it's to do with him getting neutered?

Personally, my cat growls if he's got something he likes, like his favourite toy or abit of meat but he will still let you near him.

I am sure he is alittle salty that he was left at the vet and "surgically altered"...ha ha. I have 4 males and they were alittle different after they got home, give him time. Leave him be, let him come to you.
