I am writing a story for a class and i wanted to make sure this could actually happen.... any help is appreciated!

Hi. Yes. Not from the light but from the heat damaging the retina.

Generally from heat damage yes...but also from light in the case of phosphorous or burning metals like manganese or magnesium (class D fire)

You could burn your eyes out with the fire. I think you'd be considered blind if you didnt have any eyes
